Outline of the protocol for the experiment for histopathology and immunohistochemistry of the murine colon. The experiment consisted of Non-treatment-, CMNC-, DSS-, and CMNC/DSS-groups. Male CD2F1 mice were treated with each CMNC at an oral dose of either 125 (AAT), 25 (DMBA), or 11 (ENU) mg/kg/day for 5 consecutive days, and starting 10 days after the last dose, mice were given 4% DSS in drinking water for 7 days. All surviving mice were necropsied 12 weeks after the last treatment with DSS. The number of surviving animals is shown in parentheses. Salad oil was used as the vehicle for AAT and DMBA, and water for injection was used as the vehicle for ENU
